Anything, it’s said, can be a source of inspiration. At London’s Royal Academy of Arts, “Matisse In The Studio” (Aug 5-Nov 12) looks at how the Fauvist master’s souvenirs (statues, furniture, textiles) inspired his works. Louis Vuitton does a similar retrospective with a book: the 314-page Cabinet of Wonders: The Gaston-Louis Vuitton Collection, which showcases the exotic objects that the third heir to the LV empire amassed during his travels. And till Oct 17, the second edition of Loewe’s Craft Prize (http://www.loewecraftprize.com), which celebrates people who “use hands, minds and tradition to make singular objects”, is open for submissions.
