THE NEW JEWELLERY AESTHETIC

The English translation: poor art. Originating in ’60s Italy, the movement saw artists using commonplace – often discarded – materials to create an eclectic variety of conceptual works as an antithesis to the slick Modernism dominating the era. From Balenciaga’s pendants that resemble Christmas tree ornaments to Christopher Kane’s paillette earrings that look as if they were made in a children’s art class, fashion seems to have adopted a similar stance this Pre-fall with a good dose of irreverence. After seasons of intellectual, minimalist jewellery (yawn), we’re on board too.
