At press time, word was out that Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, who had been creative directors of DKNY for almost two years, would be bidding adios to the label, which only makes their Lunar New Year capsule line for the brand even more covetable.

Besides elegant dresses in red silk and lace, the 16-piece range boasts tees and pullovers embossed, printed or embroidered with a handdrawn motif of this year’s spirit animal, the rooster, that also cleverly spells out the brand name in abstract form. Miss their millennial cool already.
Cool(er) Suede Shoes
Ugg’s comfortable sheepskin boots are a perennial staple that are great for winter holidays, but not so much for our local weather. Enter the brand’s Classic Unlined collection which does away with the boots’ signature lining. The Classic Unlined Mini ($190), in particular, retains the familiar Ugg silhouette but is constructed with lightweight, perforated suede to make it less “hot to trot”, and easier to wear.
Take A Small Wrist
While fashion trends come and go, jewellery’s a surer style bet for the ages. Cartier’s Love bracelet – first introduced way back in 1969 – became instantly recognisable with its oval curves and industrial- chic screws that appealed to both sexes. This year’s nine-piece rendition (from $5,600) sees it modernised with slimmer proportions, with everything else from the hallmark screws to the clean silhouette kept the same, ensuring it retains its status as an accessory to hold and to have. Available in yellow, white and pink gold.
Tag And Swop
Take on the DIY trend with your It bag. Fendi’s ABClick series has 26 gold-plated alphabet charms ($470 each) hand-festooned with coloured fur – and like the school charms we were once crazy for (except more luxe), they can be easily attached to a bag, necklace, wallet… you get the Tag And Swop idea. Louis Vuitton’s Bandouliere line ($680-$1,210) is more functional, but just as fun. The name is French for “shoulder strap”, and it offers a wide range of detachable ones in everything from Monogram canvas to Epi leather in rainbow hues (above left) to studded python. Sold at the Island Maison and Ngee Ann City boutiques, they can also be hot stamped with your initials.
FLYING KICKS
Sneaker brand Vans has one of the wittiest takes on the Year of the Rooster: its latest collection encapsulates the animal’s life cycle. Exclusively at the brand’s Ion Orchard boutique, the collection comprises four models ($99-$159), ranging from a yellow faux-fur rendition to a mid-cut style in crimson sheepskin leather.
Totes Granny-Chic
Gucci continues its retro-style revival with two new models – the Nymphaea and the Lilith – built with the brand’s iconic bamboo bag handle and a structured body frame, that spell classic vintage. The Nymphaea’s ($2,840-$6,970) made for everyday use, with its zippered pockets and a dedicated compartment for your phone. The pearls on the bamboo buckle and shoulder strap in the house’s signature blue-red-blue stripes add a touch of luxury. The Lilith’s ($5,100-$6,400) an occasion bag that combines velvety bows with the house’s current motif, the coral snake (in leather, with green Swarovski crystals as eyes) – lacing its feminine design with a hint of danger.
