Hey, Jute

Little known fashion fact: If not for espadrilles, there would be no Manolo Blahnik. The legendary Spanish shoe designer credits childhood memories of seeing his nanny and mother wearing traditional jute and rope sandals for inspiring his career. This month, fellow Spanish espadrilles label Castaner debuts a collaboration (from $490) with Blahnik in conjunction with its 90th anniversary. “Manolo By Day” features flat and stiletto, pointy-toe sandals in linen and jute, in contrasting hues. “Manolo By Night” is the evening equivalent, with a touch of satin.

The King Lives On

For her Holiday jewellery line, Tory Burch is going the ornate, vintage route with help from one of the most celebrated names in the business. The range (earrings, brooches and a cuff, $280-$530) was designed by the late Kenneth Jay Lane, whose bold aesthetic and unconventional colour combinations drew the likes of Elizabeth Taylor. That they’re reincarnations of his archive pieces, and one of his last works before his passing in July, make them all the more special for the festive season.

SOLO ACT

At the recent S/S ’18 shows, Jil Sander’s new creative directors Luke and Lucie Meier paid tribute to the brand’s founder by interpreting her lesser-known “light and sensual” side. Now, Frankfurt’s Museum Angewandte Kunst will up that homage with Sander’s first solo, self-titled exhibition (Nov 4, 2017-May 6, 2018). Spanning 3,000 sqm, the event is co-curated by the museum director Matthias Wagner K and Sander herself, and includes installations and pieces from her private archives, product design, architecture, and her surprising passion for gardens.

THE “IT” FACTOR

In fashion’s street style circus, the perennially OTT Anna Dello Russo (far left) is to us one of the rare bona fide stars, because she also knows how to laugh about it. Her tie-up with Tod’s reflects that sense of humour, with footwear (from $940) such as the Gommino loafers and Double T bags (from $1,960) covered in arty, cartoon clown and Dumbo motifs, all exclusive here at the Paragon store.

Not Your Average Joe

Why British label Joseph is your new stop for leather goods: Besides launching its first full bag line this month, the brand’s made every one of the 10 styles (from $860) modular. Think totes and wristlets that come with diagonal zipped compartments to fit wallets and coin pouches (from $195). To complete the utilitarian edge, each comes with a karabiner key chain.

Who You Calling Square?

A fitting moniker for the Tiffany Square Watch by the US brand that launches in stores this month. Here, the 101 on this limited edition piece.

At 27mm wide, this 18K yellow gold piece lets you cop the elegant style of a gentlemen’s dress watch sans the heft.

The Art Deco-style piece is fashioned after a similar ’20s archival design.

It boasts horology chops: Packing a square-shaped manual-winding movement into a small square case is a mechanical and design feat.

Created to mark the brand’s 180th anniversary, there are only 180 pieces available. The price: $21,500.

It’s a legit Swiss-made piece (designed and crafted at Tiffany & Co.’s watch atelier in Switzerland).
