Frizzy hair is the bane of our existence, but in this climate, it can be hard to avoid. Here’s a look at why it happens, and what you can do to achieve salon- worthy locks in the comfort of your home every day.
Why So Frizzy?
is your hair telling you it needs some moisture ASAP. While curly hair is more susceptible to frizz, any hair type can get it, especially with our humid weather. Here are some common causes of the dreaded frizz and what you can do to keep it at bay.
1. Hot and long showers
The hotter and longer your shower, the more your hair is stripped of natural oils – good stuff that guards against frizz and keeps your mane shiny. Lukewarm water is better.
2. Not conditioning enough
Conditioners deposit moisture into your hair and keep it nourished, lustrous and clean. It is recommended that you condition your hair at least once or twice a week, and with cold water so that the cuticles contract.
3. Too much rubbing
Rubbing your hair with a towel only serves to ruffle the surface, creating frizz. Instead, squeeze out the water then gently blot your hair with a towel.
4. Excessive heat styling
Blow-dryers, curling irons and flat irons can cause frizz as heat dehydrates your hair. After showering, let it dry naturally before using a blow-dryer halfway through. Avoid moving your hair dryer too much and keep it to the lowest heat setting.
5. Medication
Certain medicine you may be taking for acne or pain may have side effects that can lead to frizzy hair and even temporary hair loss.
