She has faced plenty of struggles as a local musician

“I grew up in a pretty traditional Chinese family, so I guess my struggles first began when my parents were skeptical of me pursuing music. I also remember being sort of kicked out of one of my first few paid gigs as the owner of the pub didn’t like my voice. And I could only practice singing at night, after I was back from work. But because I didn’t want to disturb my family, I’d ride the lift up and down multiple times just to be able to sing without anyone complaining.”

She just released an EP titled All Our Achilles Heels

“The EP was inspired by my fascination with the human condition. I’ve found that what gives our humanity away are our weaknesses and imperfections, and [these realisations] inspired the tracks.”

She has big plans for her music

“My hope for the future is to go to Nashville and record a full-length album someday, as I’m still constantly writing [songs].”

She also writes outside of work and has started vlogging

“I also run a personal blog, ifonlywefartflowers. com, where I illustrate stories behind a comic character persona. Recently, I’ve also been vlogging my travels and have uploaded some videos onto my YouTube channel, ANNETTE.”

If she had to tell a joke, it’d be…

“Why did the mushroom get invited to all the parties? Cos he’s a fun-gi!”
