THE MUCH-ANTICIPATED Monte Carlo Yachts MCY80 made its world premierein July in Trieste, Italy. The Editors of Asia-Pacific Boating and China Boating magazines were among the several hundred invited guests.

The MCY 80 represents the Italian luxury yacht brand’s distinguished flair and sleekness. The 24-metre (80 feet) beauty is the third-largest vessel in the MCY collection, and made its first public appearance at the Cannes Yachting Festival (Sept 6-11), where she received her first award at the World Yacht Trophies’ Gala dinner for the Best Layout in 80-120ft range.

Within its 24 metres, the new MCY 80 delivers pure cruising pleasure alongside an unparalleled ride and comfort experience for everyone on-board. Signature elements include a class-leading entertainment foredeck and Portuguese bridge that no other yacht in this size category can match.

The flybridge, an iconic characteristic of the MCY range, can be equipped with a hot tub, large bar area and sunbathing chaise lounges to create an exterior hideaway that is as luxurious as it is intimate.

Monte Carlo Yachts’ defining tradition of combining visionary design with concrete results to create boats that combine the best of luxury and functionality with outstanding performance is exemplified in the MCY 80.

The designers were faced with more than creating a great yacht – their challenge was to elevate the very concept of the MCY range to powerful and refined new heights. Agile and sleek, the MCY 80 was inspired by ideas of élan and finesse, which were translated into smooth exterior lines and shaped bulwarks that give it a curvy, modern look without being too sharp or minimalistic.

During the world premiere event, MCY President Carla Demaria discussed Monte Carlo Yachts’ unique approach as well as the development of the company’s shipyard and strategy, which have made the MCY 80 possible today.

“Don’t call ours a dream, call it a vision,” says Demaria. “Behind every success story, there is always a powerful dream, but we prefer to call it vision. A vision is the art of seeing what it is invisible to others, but to deliver results, the vision needs to be converted into a strategy, and the strategy deploys into a plan of action. 80 is our new goal, that is the MCY 80s campaign claim, and it is a fitting motto for the way Monte Carlo Yachts operates.”

MCY Managing Director Fabrizio Iarrera further developed the themes by discussing the company’s past, present and future industrial and development plans.

“It is as simple as this: a dream has been the most powerful driver in our new adventure but our solidity and concrete approach has brought us where we are today,” says Iarrera. “When it comes to being concrete, we can say that the key figures for 2016 support our claims.”

While discussing the evolution of yacht design, Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard, designers of the MCY range comment on the design concept and inspiration for the MCY 80: “To reach its fullest expression, design cannot be caged and stifled, but at the same time it needs to express a brand’s global strategy and essence so that it isn’t just an end in itself but a lasting value.

“The MCY 80 is a great yacht, agile, sleek and elegant, but it is also solid and safe like a boat should be and it fully represents the values and goals set by Monte Carlo Yachts.”

The MCY collection currently includes the MCY 65, MCY 70, MCY 76, MCY 86, MCY 105 and the new MCY 80 that was presented to a hand-picked selection of guests including top clients and the international press. The private event in Trieste also featured an art exhibition about the world history of naval production processes and their developments, honouring past innovations that made Monte Carlo Yachts’ successes, such as the launch of the new MCY 80, possible.

Guests were also treated to a special performance by tenor Cristiano Cremonini and soprano Simona Ferrari that delighted guests throughout the evening.

Holding the event at the shipyard allowed guests to see first-hand how MCY combines technical manufacturing excellence with world leading design to create a stunning range of yachts that offer levels of customisation normally found only on superyachts.

Guests were free to feel and touch samples of fabrics, stone and wood whilst learning about the most recent industrial investments MCY have made in their state of the art shipyard together with how the MCY 80 was conceived and designed.

“Those who were with us for the launch of the MCY 70 in 2012, will discover how, over these few years, we have grown while keeping true to our dream and our vision,” says Demaria. “We have invested a significant amount of resources, to support our growth and create the conditions to keep on growing in the future. The MCY 80 is the latest step in our path of evolution, one we’re very proud of, as we’re proud to present it right here at home in Trieste.”

At 80 feet, the MCY 80 is the perfect size for Owners looking to step into the superyacht sphere in size. Like all models from Monte Carlo Yachts, the interior and exterior are designed by Italian designers Nuvolari Lenard and benefit from stylish appointments, eye-catching exterior lines and intelligently planned layouts.

The MCY 80 has a curvy, modern profile without being too minimalistic. She has a style that is designed to stand the test of time and sports features that are signatures of the MCY brand, such as an enormous lounge foredeck, Portuguese bridge and flybridge designed for entertaining.

The interior is well lit, with brushed and bleach oak floorings making the saloon feel larger and lighter and giving a sense of elegance. This is heightened by details such as leather and precious stones and appointments by Hermes, Armani Casa and Minotti for a modern and tasteful motif.

The MCY 80 is available in Hong Kong through Asia Yachting, and the rest of Asia through Simpson Marine.

“I love MCY because they are people of their word,” says Nicole van de Wall, Senior Yacht Broker at Simpson Marine Thailand in Phuket. “They are dedicated professionals, committed to building fantastic yachts, and know how to give every client excellent service.”

Her colleague Monika Yu, a Yacht Broker at Simpson Marine China in Sanya on Hainan Island, echoes this feeling. “There are many reasons why I love MCY,” says Yu. “One such reason is their unique graceful appearance, and another is the bow area that cannot be compared to anything else on the market. The shipyard provides excellent personalised attention and helps to design the yacht exactly as the client wishes, with almost no limitations – this is very impressive.

“Finally, I believe that MCY is the only production yacht company that offers a similar approach as when buying a superyacht: very attentive service, an incredible array of choices, and an after sales service-personnel/client relationship for life.”

The award-winning Monte Carlo Yachts MCY 80 will make its debut in Asia at the MCY 80 Hong Kong launch event in early December.
