TOP REASONS WHY MICROSOFT EDGE IS FINALLY ‘DEFAULT BROWSER’ MATERIAL

I know of no techies that would willingly fire up Internet Explorer unless they absolutely had to.

I know of no techies that would willingly fire up Internet Explorer unless they absolutely had to.

I also have many friends who are so accustomed to Internet Explorer, the internet ‘feels different’ on another browser. Now, development for Internet Explorer has stopped in favor of the new Edge browser in Windows 10 and the final version, IE11, was released three years ago in 2013. Still, the techies think that Edge is just a rebadged IE, and the casuals think Edge is too different from IE to replace IE.

With the recent Windows 10 Creators Update however, Edge may have just come of age. Instead of telling you how fast and efficient the new Edge is, here are the main features that make Edge more functional and integrated than ever before.

1. Tab management

Have you ever had to research a topic where you ended up with a whole bunch of websites you wouldn’t want to bookmark otherwise? Edge’s new Tab management essentially lets you “put aside” all your active tabs for later. You can put aside and pull out multiple groups of tabs with a single click. This feature is similar to how other browsers may allow you to save “sessions”, but on Edge, it feels more intuitive, fluid and natural. Edge also has a new one-click expanded tab view, so you can quickly find the page you want without wasting time tab surfing.

 2. In-browser translator

Instead of having to go to Google Translate when you need something translated, you can now install Translator as a browser extension and you can instantly translate entire webpages or selective in-line texts to and from 50+ languages as you browse. You can download Translator from the Extensions menu in Edge or the Microsoft Store.

3. e-books

Microsoft introduced epub support in Edge, which means you can now open and read e-books within the browser.

The Creators Update also brings a new Books tab in the Microsoft Store for you to purchase digital books. If you have the Creators Update and can’t see the Books tab, that’s because this feature is now only available in the US. But, to enable it is easy, just go to Settings > Region & language and change your Country to United States. No rebooting or logging onto a different account needed.
4. 4K Net fix

Microsoft Edge is the only browser that supports streaming Net fix in 4K. Not Chrome, not Firefox, not Opera, not Safari. This is due to additional DRM features only available with the Creators Update. Of course, you must also satisfy the following conditions. Besides requiring Windows 10 with the Creators Update, your PC must be running on an Intel Kaby Lake processor, and you should be subscribed to the 4K Net fix plan.
