At the rate that technology is progressing, it is easy to imagine that cars in the future will be autonomous. Drivers will become passengers, who will then be able to work or relax while the vehicle does all the driving.

The BMW Group, however, remains steadfast in its philosophy and commitment to intensifying Sheer Driving Pleasure, and the Vision Next 100 concept car is a testament to this.

In the Vision Next 100 concept, the conventional instrument panels and displays no longer exist. Instead, they are incorporated into the front windscreen, which now functions as a giant display for the driver.

The interior itself will be built using Upon approval Torque Please sign: Name and Date: mostly recycled or renewable materials. This is in line with BMW’s leading position as the world’s most sustainable carmaker.

Technology-wise, artificial intelligence systems will turn a regular driver into the ultimate driver, by learning his habits and anticipating his wishes.

But, most crucially, the Vision Next 100 concept car will be driver-centric, because these autonomous systems will only work at the driver’s command. In Boost mode, the driver remains in control of the car. Only when Ease mode is selected will the car take over.

Other manufacturers might be building robots on wheels. But for the BMW Group, driving and mobility will always remain an emotional and sensory experience.

CAR COMMUNICATION

Consisting of 800 triangles spread across the dashboard and side panels, the Alive Geometry concept uses coordinated movements to communicate certain events to the driver. The movements can be seen in the driver’s peripheral vision.

INNOVATIVE ELEMENTS

Apart from replacing wood and leather with eco-friendlier and recyclable materials, carbon fibre and 4D printing will be used to make other car components.

WORLD VIEW

In the future, all relevant information will be shown to the driver on the windscreen, which will help keep his attention focussed on the road. For passengers, the windscreen can display entertainment options.
