The last time BMW had an 8 Series car, Messi was still a toddler, Formula One was still running massive V12s, and the world was still dancing to the Macarena. That was a long time ago. Now, however, the 8 Series is back and it will form BMW’s range of flagship coupes.

The new 8 Series is a head turner. Up front, the signature kidney grille is enlarged and angular, and large air intakes hint at the car’s performance. BMW tried to keep the design of the new 8 Series as close as possible to that of the Concept 8 Series and they have succeeded.

My Reading Room

According to BMW, the number 8 is only reserved for the very best - case in point the old Z8 and the current i8. So it is only fitting that the new 8 Series is fitted with the finest that BMW has to offer. The M850i is powered by 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces a beefy 523hp and 750nm of torque. Mated to an eight-speed auto and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the M850i can gallop from a standstill to 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds.

The new BMW M850i will go on sale later this year and will go head to head against the likes of the Porsche 911, Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, and Aston Martin DB11.
