My Reading Room

The much anticipated opening of Stamford American’s new Village is just around the corner. Designed by early years’ architectural experts, the Early Learning Village is punctuated by customised learning elements, put in place to ensure each child is happy, involved and passionate about learning. Built on Reggio Emilia’s simple truth that the environment nurtures the child, no detail has been spared in creating this new facility for children from 18 months to six years of age. Every classroom has a dedicated outdoor play area tailored to the different age levels, and the bespoke campus also boasts a 22m swimming pool, and multi-purpose gym called “The Hive” that complements the programmes unique to Stamford, to give your child the very best start in life.

FIGURE OF SPEECH

The younger the learner, the better they are at picking up a new language. Your kids will be able to learn Mandarin and Spanish through daily lessons from as young as 18 months, or through a comprehensive English/Mandarin Bilingual Programme available from the age of three. After all, daily exposure to the different languages results in the greatest possible proficiency and confidence.

STRINGS ATTACHED

Beyond carrying a tune, music education helps to develop a child’s senses and self-expression, and has a direct link to mental development, intelligence and memory. Plus, playing stringed instruments is said to improve concentration too. Stamford American is the first school in Singapore to offer the world-renowned Suzuki Violin Programme from the young age of three, with the option to progress to the cello from the age of five.

GO HOLISTIC

The Early Learning Village offers incredible enrichment opportunities all under one roof, which allows families to extend the school day in either the morning, afternoon, or both. Begin your day sunny side up with their fun and delicious Breakfast Club which begins at 7.15am. Plus, there is also the afternoon option to pick up your child any time up to 6pm with their Tea Time Club. Here, activities such as arts and crafts, building blocks, Lego and healthy snack-time take place.

There is also the Co-Curricular Activities Programme, exclusive to the Early Learning Village, offering CCA choices such as Ballet, Circus Skills, Creative Drama, Mini Maestros, Swimming and Soccer that begins right after school at 3.30pm. Perfect school day, check!

INNOVATIVE THOUGHT

Stamford American includes activities that allow students to explore, experiment and create, so as to nurture innovative, problem-solving minds. Can you believe they have introduced computational thinking (coding) to these little learners in fun ways, such as programming little bugs through mazes or travelling to exotic destinations with Virtual Reality headsets?

ACTION HEROES

Stamford American believes that innovative physical education reinforces the development of children’s gross motor skills in the classroom.

SMART Steps and the Perceptual Motor Programme enhance key movement patterns for body and brain development, before building skills that support reading, writing, focus, perceptual awareness and attention development.
