Can’t bear to go bare?

You know you shouldn’t wear a full face of makeup to exercise, but there are days where you just want a little bit of cosmetic magic. Here’s what you can do when that itch hits.

Grown-up glitter
It’s all about the base when it comes to shiny manis. “The new glitter looks elegant because it’s mixed into a clear, nude or metallic base,” says Gina Viviano, a celebrity manicurist for Chanel. To keep the effect chic, apply strategically: Paint one coat of glitter on the top half of each bare nail, then a second coat only on the tips for a new take on a French manicure. The upside of this glitzy look is that no one can tell when it starts to chip. The downside is that glitter is notoriously difficult to remove. Gina’s sure-fire solution: “Soak a cotton pad in acetone and let it sit on your nail for two full minutes. Use another acetone-soaked cotton pad to gently rub off the polish.”

Glowy skin
You probably skip the full-coverage foundation during gym sessions, but you can still net subtle coverage if you want to even out any imperfections. How? Just make sure you choose an oil-free mineral-based powder, which won’t trap perspiration under your makeup and clog pores. A little highlighter on the high points of your cheeks and below your brows can boost your fresh-off-the-treadmill glow too.

Defined contours
You obviously don’t need glam, contoured cheekbones for boxing class, but there’s nothing wrong with a little strategic sculpting. Just a hint of bronzer gives your cheekbones subtle definition. Use a gel or liquid formula, which will look the most natural and won’t feel cakey. With your fingers, dab it along your cheekbones, then blend upwards in circular motions until it melts into your skin. The dark bronze shade and dewiness you get from working out will give your skin all-over radiance.

High-impact lips
Hands down, the safest place for makeup during a workout is your lips, since you’ll never have to worry about clogged pores there. To keep your colour in place as things get sweaty, opt for a lip stain that won’t budge.
