Carrots are commonly one of Baby’s first foods as they are naturally sweet, and can be pureed to a smooth consistency. They also contain antioxidants like beta carotene, as well as vitamins A and C, which are good for the eyes and immune system, and fibre.

CHICKEN-VEGETABLE STEW WITH PORRIDGE

Makes 2 servings 1 chicken drumstick (or meat of your choice) 1 tsp plain fl our 1 small potato, peeled and finely diced ½ small carrot, peeled and chopped 1 small onion, peeled and finely diced 1 cup water Cooked rice

Remove chicken skin and roll drumstick in flour.

Place all ingredients in a saucepan, lower the flame and simmer until chicken is well-cooked.

Remove chicken bone and cut meat into small pieces.

Serve with porridge or soft-cooked rice.

This recipe is suitable for babies from 10 to 12 months old.

When Baby is about 10 to 12 months old, start introducing onions and other strong-tasting veggies, like garlic and ginger. They’re a great way to add flavour to meals and help ease the transition to adult food.

To vary the amount of sweetness in each serving, transfer the syrup from Step 1 into a small jug. Continue with Steps 2 and 3, and serve the unsweetened dessert with the jug on the side.
