Are you storing your groceries in the best way? Find out how to make them last longer

Have you ever had to throw away mouldy, spoiled or freezer-burnt food from your refrigerator? With our busy, hectic lifestyles, poor and inefficient food storage can make your groceries turn bad and increase the risk of contamination. These are five common problems you may face when storing your groceries and ways to keep them fresh longer:

1 Improperly packaged raw food

Exposed fresh meats, fish and seafood can transfer bacteria and odours to other parts of the fridge. Ensure this doesn’t happen by wrapping and sealing in containers or zip lock bags. Prevent bad smells from transferring between both compartments with Samsung’s new Twin Cooling PlusTM Two-Door Refrigerator. It boasts two independent evaporators (instead of the conventional one) to generate two separate airflows – one in the fridge, one in the freezer! This also helps preserve your ingredients’ original flavour.

2 Having a too full or too empty fridge

An overcrowded fridge restricts air circulation, making it harder to keep food at a proper cooling temperature, while a fridge that’s too empty simply wastes energy and money. The independent cooling system essentially solves this problem. With up to five smart conversion modes, choose how much cooling power you need at any time. Need more fridge space when cooking large meals? Press a button to convert your freezer to a fridge. Going on a long vacation? Switch off the fridge and just leave the freezer on.

3 Removing veggies from their packaging

Keep your produce crisp by leaving them in their store packaging or in perforated plastic bags. The Twin Cooling PlusTM technology also ensures veggies stay at optimal freshness longer by maintaining a high humidity level of 70 per cent+ throughout the fridge.

4 Not labelling leftovers

This means you’re more likely to forget about them, leaving them to spoil. Samsung’s fridge is equipped with Easy Slide Shelves for hassle-free organisation and access, as well as an Anti-Bacteria Protector to keep the air sterilised and fresh.

5 Keeping fruits and veggies together

Storing them together can cause your vegetables to wilt prematurely, as certain fruits emit a gas that speeds up the ripening process. The Samsung fridge lets you separate them with a vegetable drawer and a fruit drawer!
