Take a leaf from the celebrities du jour – here’s how to adapt the most wearable red-carpet looks for the slew of festive parties ahead!

SLEEK FLICKS

ON THE RED CARPET: Fan Bingbing turned heads at the Toronto International Film Festival with wing tips. This sophisticated feline flick defined her peepers, gave her eyes a charming lift, and added a touch of edginess to her look.

DO IT YOUR WAY: The wing tip can work for any occasion. For black tie events, tone down the look by pairing it with a feminine pink lipstick like Bingbing. Or, to add a dash of colour for a casual party, pick eyeliners in shades of dark purple or green, and pair it with a nude lip.

DO IT YOUR WAY: Start with gorgeous skin – exfoliate, moisture and prep skin with a radiant foundation or BB cream. Then, highlight your natural facial contours with a neutral blusher and lipstick, and add some contrast with grey eyeshadows.

ON THE RED CARPET: Katy Perry rocked bright red lips at the Cannes Film Festival. This look channels old-world glamour and has been a red-carpet classic since the 1940s and 1950s, when Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Ava Gardner ruled the red carpet.

DO IT YOUR WAY: To balance this strong lip, dial back on the rest of your makeup. Focus on clean skin, neat brows, a flick of mascara and fuss-free pulled-back hair. Classic red lipstick like the one Katy Perry is wearing can be perfect for an evening event. However, if you’re heading for an afternoon party, we suggest a fun coral shade instead.

ON THE RED CARPET: Alessandra Ambrosio gave her smokey eyes a splash of turquoise at the Grammy Awards. This head-turning eye makeup effortlessly jazzes up one-colour pieces such as Alessandra’s gorgeous black gown.

DO IT YOUR WAY: A real head-turner, this look is perfect for glamorous parties. Start by lining your peepers with a black eye pencil and smudging it. Then, apply a bright colour of your choice to the inner corner of your eye, before finishing off with a darker shade around the outer corner of your eyes. Keep the rest of your makeup neutral and clean.
