Exercise is a lot of things – healthy, inspiring, energising – and now science has discovered that it can also keep your job from sucking the life out of you. So those days when you’re crazy busy with work? They’re the ones when you need to hit the gym most, researchers say.

While demanding careers are known to increase your risk of heart problems such as high blood pressure, fiter people (those who did better on a cycling test of cardio fitness) dodged these issues, a study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise reveals. Presumably the feel-good effects of exercise act as a buffer against the health bummers that stress sets off.
