To celebrate my 35th birthday this year, I threw a party themed “Over The Hill”. The dress code was granny/grandpa chic (think fashion icon Iris Apfel). This was done in the name of fun, of course. I’m not past my prime. Far from it. Age doesn’t define who we are, unless we want it to. We are capable of achieving anything we set our mind to, regardless of how old we are.

This mindset certainly rings true for our cover personality, Jaime Teo. Pushing 40, she only started exercising two years ago, after recovering from an eating disorder in her early 30s. She’s happier now, and definitely didn’t let her age deter her from embracing a healthier lifestyle – and scoring those amazing abs! (Read our interview with Jaime on pg 30.)
But there are physical changes we can’t quite run away from. Like how we start losing muscle and bone mass once we hit our 30s, which results in slower metabolism. (Yes, reality bites!) These changes affect even the strongest among us, so it’s important to take care of ourselves.
That’s why we think you’ll find the Anti-Ageing Special in this issue handy. Supercharge your fat-burning engine with the workout on pg 58. Plus, we cover the benefits of aerial fitness classes on pg 54, including how they help to keep you young. Turn to pg 60 for our guide on maintaining radiant, wrinkle-free skin. And when it comes to defying nature, it helps to hear from those with advice to share – we get three fit women over 35, who look great for their age, to tell us their stay-young secrets (pg 49). Enjoy!
