No matter how much heatprotectant I apply before styling, I still feel like my tresses get fried whenever I use the hair straightener. A possible solution? The new GHD Platinum styler. Billed as a styler that’s less damaging than others on the market, it reportedly maintains what the brand calls “an optimal temperature” of 180 deg C all through styling to minimise hair damage. In fact, the brand claims that its styler reduces hair breakage by 50 per cent, compared to other stylers that heat up all the way to 230 deg C.

During a trial, GHD lead guest stylist Marco Chan, who has worked on numerous fashion shows around the world, used the tool to give me a headful of effortless-looking curls in less than 20 minutes. I tried my hand at curling a few sections of my hair, and the device was light and easy to handle. The best bit? My tresses looked lustrous, even without the use of a finishing spray. – Jaclyn Gunasilan, associate beauty editor
