My Reading Room

When it comes to skincare – or as a matter of fact, anything body-related – prevention is always better than cure. But how do you know if the hands of time has already done its damage? Most people are aware that dry skin is one of the first telltale signs of ageing, but for those of us living in a tropical climate like ours, dry skin is generally the least of our concerns. But that doesn’t mean we’re immune to it, warns Kang Hyunseo, a science researcher in LANEIGE’s research and development division. “Skin ageing begins from the surface,” she explains.

When magnified under a microscope, the surface of a healthy complexion should show “baby triangles”. The older your skin looks, the less distinct the “baby triangles” are. “As such, regardless of the climate, signs of early ageing can be detected from the changes in the structure of the skin texture,” Kang adds. “Abrupt changes in temperature and humidity (such as when you step in and out of air-conditioned environments), UV rays, and pollution can also accelerate the ageing process.” Since the “baby triangles” are the key to youthful-looking skin, LANEIGE has launched the new Perfect Renew Regenerator that restores them back into the epidermis layer, resulting in a denser pattern that’s seen on youthful faces.

This is achieved via LANEIGE’s new Skin Rebirth technology, developed in partnership with research agency Singapore A*STAR. Studies have shown that the most effective way to reverse the ageing process is to intervene at the cellular level and, based on that theory, the Skin Rebirth technology works by using galagin – a flavonoid from galangal root – to activate the skin’s metabolism, causing it to tighten back into the “baby triangle” pattern. When that happens, damaged skin is restored, fine wrinkles start to fade, and your complexion will naturally become smoother and suppler

FOREVER YOUNG

The experts from LANEIGE show us how to shave years off our age with just makeup.

1- Have a dewy complexion as a base. Try LANEIGE’s famed BB cushion for that K-Pop starlet glow.

2- Arched brows will make you look more mature, so keep them short and straight instead.

3- Ditch the brown eyeshadows. Go for more youthful shades like pink or peach.

4- Draw on your eyeliner in the “puppy eye” style – a downward flick that follows the curve of your natural eye shape. This will give you an innocent, doe-eyed appearance.

5- Apply blusher lightly over your cheekbones only. If need be, tap on some BB cream over your blusher to achieve just the slightest hint of colour.

6- Complete the look with gradient lips. Apply lipstick on only the centre of your lips and blend by pursing them repeatedly, or use LANEIGE Two-Tone Lip Bar.
