NINTENDO VIRTUAL BOY (1995)

A red monochromatic 3-D Virtual Reality system, the Virtual Boy created the illusion of depth by manipulating parallax. However it also gave you eye strain, stiff neck and in some cases, a severe headache, so only 14 games were created before Nintendo killed the line.

ATARI LYNX (1989)

If not for the popularity of Nintendo’s Game Boy, the Atari Lynx would surely have captured the portable gaming market.

It was the first handheld game console with a backlit color LCD, and had an ambidextrous layout. It also allowed for zooming and scaling, giving realistic 3D effects for the time.

NOKIA N-GAGE (2003)

Nokia’s entry into gaming didn’t have the best design. It was difficult to switch games, and worked horribly as a mobile phone, but the N-Gage was the first mobile phone that you could actually play games on that weren’t some version of Snake or Tetris.
