Comedians We Love

The best comedians not only make us laugh, but also think. Whether it’s through their stand-up gigs or TV shows, these ones have made us giggle, tugged on our heartstrings and even made us cry – in a good way.

Aziz Ansari

What do you do when the condom breaks during a one-night-stand? We love how Aziz uses this awkward situation to kick-start Master of None, a comedy series that he produced, wrote and starred in. He may have started out as a stand-up comedian, but he’s definitely shown his acting and producing chops in this original TV show. PS: remember the episode when he hung out with his parents? Those were his actual parents – boom.

Louis C.K.

Sometimes, the best comedy isn’t the one that makes you laugh out loud. When it comes to keeping things real, no one does it better than Louis. His humour is dark and self-deprecating, and some may say that the later seasons of his show, Louie, are more tragedy than comedy. But hey, a comedy that makes you cry? That takes a certain amount of skill too. If you appreciate Louis’ humour, check out his new show, Baskets, which tells a sad clown’s tale.

Chelsea Peretti

The best comedians not only make us laugh, but also think. Whether it’s through their stand-up gigs or TV shows, these ones have made us giggle, tugged on our heartstrings and even made us cry – in a good way. Chelsea first caught our attention in Brooklyn NineNine (producers, we need more Gina, please), but a quick search on YouTube will show that Chelsea has done so much more in her career as a comedian.
Her comedy special on Netflix, One of the Greats, is an hour packed with laughs, and even her Instagram account (@chelsanity), keeps our spirits high. To be honest, Chelsea’s perpetual deadpan expression is probably enough to get us going.

Mindy Kaling

She’s loud, she’s cheeky, and she’s honest with her emotions. In the midst of laughing at her hilarious character wreak havoc in The Mindy Project, Mindy also allows us to see a more vulnerable side in her memoirs. In Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? and Why Not Me?, she opens up about her feelings on having her show cancelled and shares melancholic words of wisdom. And because of her raw honesty, we are in love with Mindy.
