My Reading Room

Let’s be frank: For pilates beginners, the reformer exercise platform can look quite intimidating, with its cables, springs and bed-like frame.

But it does not have to be. The Fundamental Reformer group class at Focus Pilates is specially designed for beginners, with a focus on teaching the main principles of pilates in a welcoming environment. You’ll be eased into the basic techniques and exercises that will help boost your flexibility, strength and stability. The classes cover various low-impact reformer movements and resistance training sets – which include techniques such as pulling the straps, pushing the footbar or sliding the carriage (the sliding platform) – that will help you develop your skill set.

Like the pilates mat exercises, learning the correct breathing patterns and proper muscle recruitment will be the primary agenda on hand. Once you have learnt the foundation and practise it regularly, you’ll be able to gradually strengthen your core muscles, gain a deeper understanding of your body movements, and achieve a more balanced and healthier life.

LEARN AS A GROUP FROM QUALIFIED INSTRUCTORS

Fundamental Reformer group classes are kept to a maximum of six participants, to ensure all receive an optimum level of personal attention and counselling during their session, so that they can perfect their form and maximise results. All Focus Pilates instructors are Polestar Pilates-certified, so you’ll be assured of the right guidance.
