My Reading Room
THE BMW i3 IS A PURE ELECTRIC VEHICLE.

Because the BMW i3 is powered solely by electricity, it has zero emissions. It also has greater driving range and is even more eco-friendly compared to hybrid or plug-in hybrid cars.

Hybrid cars are powered by an internal combustion engine and electric motor. Although they can run on electricity alone, hybrids must still use their regular engine to charge their batteries and propel the vehicle.

Plug-in hybrids are like hybrids, except they can be plugged in (hence their name) to charge their batteries.

IT GOES THE DISTANCE.

The latest BMW i3 has a realistic range of 200km compared to about 150km previously. That means you can drive from Changi to Jurong and back four times. That’s also more than Singapore’s rail network distance of 154.2km.

If you cover 50km daily, you’d only need to recharge the BMW i3 every three days to enjoy zero emissions performance.

For added mileage, the BMW i3 has an optional Range Extender – a 2-cylinder petrol engine powering a generator that maintains a minimum charge level for the batteries instead of driving the wheels. With it, the BMW i3 offers a total range of 330km.

CHARGING ON THE GO COULDN’T BE EASIER.

There are 105 charging stations islandwide, and another 23 slated to come online, you won’t have to travel far to juice up the BMW i3.

It takes 7.5 hours to recharge the batteries using a regular charger. If time is of the essence, a fast charger does it in less than 40 minutes. So by the time you’re done grocery shopping, your BMW i3 will be ready to go, too.

The BMW i3 is also cheaper to run compared to a petrol-powered car. The most expensive charging rate is $3 per hour, so a full charge giving you a pure electric range of 200 kilometres would only cost $22.50. And depending on the location, some charging stations are actually (no pun intended) free of charge!

ITS PERFORMANCE WILL DELIGHT YOU.

The BMW i3 literally delivers electrifying performance with its 170hp and 250Nm. The instantaneous torque from the electric motor effortlessly zips you from one destination to the next.

In fact, the BMW i3 goes from zero to 60km/h in just 3.8 seconds, which is actually quicker than the last-generation BMW M3!

Rallying legend Rauno Aaltonen was even quoted saying, “It feels like you’re in a car with 1000 horsepower!”

THE BMW i3 IS THE PERFECT CITY CAR.

At just under four metres long and with a turning circle of less than 10 metres, manoeuvring the BMW i3 around carparks is a cinch.

In particularly tight situations, drivers can rely on the Park Assist function, which parallel parks the car for them. The BMW i3 also comes with BMW ConnectedDrive, a suite of connectivity features that, among other abilities, lets a driver access his smartphone apps and reads out his messages. BMW ConnectedDrive can also put an i3 owner in touch with a concierge, who can help with a variety of tasks.
