The New Facelift Sonata is poised to continue the success streak of Hyundai’s most popular executive sedan.

My Reading Room

The Hyundai Sonata started out as a conservative family saloon, but it has evolved over the years to meet the demands of buyers in one of the most competitive automobile segments.

Like the musical sonata form that develops a lyrical theme over various movements, the latest “movement” in this automotive Sonata is a mid- life facelift of the seventh- generation Sonata.

To use the term “facelift” is a gross understatement because the latest Hyundai Sonata marks a completely new design approach. The dramatic changes that have been made, as well as new technology and safety features, rival that of a new model.

In front, the signature Cascading Grille and vertical LED daytime running lamps give the new Sonata a sportier and more contemporary appearance.

The narrower headlamps project a purposeful expression with just a hint of aggressiveness. Tapering lines on the bonnet showcase a sleeker and more chiselled form that suggests dynamism.

The interior is more visually- striking than before, with a reworked centre console. It also feels more luxurious, thanks to enhancements such as “piano key” controls for audio, ventilation and air-conditioning functions, and a leather-wrapped three- spoke steering wheel.

New connectivity solutions, such as an additional USB port, enable occupants to stream music or charge their devices. The standard wireless smartphone charging lets occupants recharge their Qi-compatible devices simply by placing them at the bottom of the console.

The new Hyundai Sonata offers the most comprehensive advanced safety systems in its segment, including features such as Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

This striking and bold facelift earned the Sonata a spot as a finalist in the 2017 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).

These changes build on the success of the Sonata and are a look at the things to come from the Korean automaker.

Like a Beethoven sonata whose melody still lingers on even after the recital has concluded, the new Sonata will continue to move you – even when it is standing still.

The new Sonata will be in Singapore in Q4 2017.
