The letters ‘L’ and ’T’ are special in the world of McLaren. Together, they stand for ‘Longtail’ and are only given to their most driver and track-focused cars. The latest McLaren to be bestowed these hallowed letters is the new 600LT.

Essentially, the 600LT is a more powerful, lighter, and faster version of the 570S. It will be the new range-topper in McLaren’s entry-level Sports Series. Power increases and weight reduction aside, the 600LT also gets numerous other tweaks. It has a wider track and lower ride height, which improves grip and keeps the center of gravity low. It also has recalibrated dampers and suspension components lifted out from the 720S to improve steering and response. To increase stability at high speeds, there are also a couple of aerodynamic tweaks including a new front splitter, an extended rear diffuser, and a large rear wing.

Powering the 600LT is an uprated version of the 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 found in the 570S. Power is now up to 592hp and 620nm, modest increases of 30hp and 20nm respectively. On the weight front, if you opt for every lightweight option, the 600LT can be made to be nearly 100kg lighter than the 570S. This means crazy performance. 0 to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds and 0 to 200km/h in just 8.2 seconds, which is faster than the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. If this is McLaren’s entry-level track-focused car, god only knows how frightening the 720LT will be.
