Why is the sky blue? How do birds fly? Are mooncakes really from the moon? Your precocious little one has probably asked you numerous questions about the world around him or her, which goes to show that children are naturally curious and have an insatiable appetite for learning. The Ministry of Education (MOE) understands this and, in 2014, set out to provide quality and aff ordable preschool education through its MOE Kindergartens. MOE believes that children are curious, active and competent learners. Its curriculum is therefore designed to nurture their confi dence, social skills and give them a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy.
A LOVE FOR LEARNING
Developed by MOE specialists, its two flagship programmes seek to ignite the joy and love of learning in children with its integrated approach. The HI-Light Programme nurtures children holistically and supports their development in a wide range of areas such as motor skills and creative expression. The Starlight Literary Programme nurtures early bilingualism and is off ered in English and three offi cial Mother Tongue Languages.
MOE Kindergartens work hard to build your little one’s all-important self-confi dence and social skills. Experienced teachers engage children in lively conversation, helping them naturally build on ideas and concepts. Children are also engaged in purposeful play where they learn through enjoyable activities planned to achieve desired learning outcomes.
GOING LOCAL
Boasting a distinctly Singaporean fl avour, MOE’s curriculum helps children learn about the world around them in an authentic context. Your child will explore the signifi cance of local festivals, food and important traditions while learning important values such as care, respect and harmony. On To A Strong Start Each term, children embark on a Weeks of Wonder project, collaborating with their peers and teachers to investigate topics of their interest such as spiders, dragon boats and even local architecture. What’s more, 12 of the 15 kindergartens are located within primary schools.
This means a richer learning experience for children, thanks to close partnerships between all 15 MOE Kindergartens and their host and nearby primary schools. Children will also be able to enjoy a smoother transition to Primary 1. So if you would like your child to be motivated to ask questions and discover more about the world around him or her, choose MOE Kindergartens. Your child will be on to a strong start!
