The best thing about the biggerthan- ever Korean beauty craze is that it brings back the fun in makeup and skincare through cute and innovative products with irresistible packaging. Plus, every devoted K-drama fan will tell you the star-studded endorsements are a huge draw.
To experience the fun and excitement of K-beauty, The Weekly flew to Seoul in July to take part in ET UDE HOUSE’s Life Is Sweet Festival, a musical extravaganza where the Korean brand launched their latest beauty lineup. Krystal Jung, official ambassador of ET UDE HOUSE, made an appearance to kickstart the festivities with performances featuring mega K-Pop girl band I.O.I. Earlier, we also attended a beauty masterclass with K-beauty makeup guru Dave Kim. Here are their top tips:
KRYSTAL’S TOP 10 BEAUTY SECRETS
The Korean actress and singer reveals her tips to keep her skin and body in tip-top shape
1. “For smooth and supple skin, drink lots of water!”
2. “Do a very thorough cleansing and removal of makeup every day. Treat this as the most important part of your beauty routine, it’s crucial in maintaining good skin.”
3. “Apply a good moisturiser before going to bed! When you wake up you will find that your makeup adheres really easily.”
4. “When travelling in the car or airplane, you’ll feel that your skin is starting to get dehydrated so use a skincare mist to replenish moisture to your skin.”
5. “Recently, the matte lip look is really popular in Korea, so I really recommend ETUDE HOUSE Dear My Blooming Lips-Talk – a matte textured lipstick that is light and easy to wear, and stays on really well.”
6. “When sleeping in hotels6, my skin will get really dry and dehydrated because of constant air-conditioning. So I will usually use a mask sheet. After removing the mask sheet, you can apply a sleeping pack immediately for moist supple skin”

9. “The most effective way of losing weight is probably regular exercise. I’m usually very busy with work, but before I go to bed I will make it a point to do some stretching exercises.”
10. “The most important way to maintain good health and skin is to try and reduce your stress levels. If you’re feeling stressed, listen to songs or watch movies that you like - it helps me keep stress levels down!”

FACE
“Firstly, use the ETUDE HOUSE PLAY 101 Stick as a foundation – there are four shades to cater to different skin tones. Apply on your cheeks, forehead and chin, then use the PLAY 101 Blending Finger Brush to blend and create a light and translucent base.”
“Create a highlighting effect by applying the highlighting portion of the PLAY 101 Stick Contour Duo on the T-Zone and C-Zone. For a dewy effect, apply PLAY 101 Blending Pencil in shades #18 and #1 in a circular motion on cheeks; blend with PLAY 101 Blending Finger Brush.”
EYES
“The trend in Korea right now is to apply eye makeup using pencil products and blending them out to create an alluring eyeshadow effect. First apply the PLAY 101 Blending Pencil in shade #5, then use an eyeshadow brush to blend the colour out; ensure colours don’t go beyond the eyelids.”
“Next, apply the PLAY 101 Blending Pencil in #11 onto eyelids and use the same colour to highlight lower lash line. Use an eye shadow brush to blend shades #5 and #11 on eyelids. Complete by applying mascara in three different areas as follows: Middle lashes, inner lashes, and lashes on the outer corner of your eyes.”
LIPS
“To create the hot gradient lip trend, I recommend the ETUDE HOUSE Dear My Blooming Lips-Talk: Chiffon lipstick in PK027. Apply a small amount on inner lips then blend it outwards with the PLAY 101 Blending Finger Brush.”
“With that, the strobing makeup look is complete. This trend is all the rage in Korea now and it is all about creating a flawless and luminous look. The term strobing represents the moment when there is a flash of light, hence the need to use a number of highlighting products to complete this effect.”
