I’m not overweight, but like many women, I do have excess fat I’d love to get rid of. Unfortunately, I have a low pain threshold and most slimming treatments come with an ouch factor. So naturally, I was apprehensive when I went for the Exilis Elite Body treatment ($856 per session), which, I’m told, works best for people looking to reduce bulges and tighten loose skin (it may not work as well for those who are significantly overweight).

Here’s how it works: Utilising radio-frequency technology, controlled heat is delivered to areas such as the arms, thighs and tummy; the heat is said to melt fat cells and improve skin elasticity. Over the next few days, the body flushes out the melted fat. The end result? A trimmer, more toned bod.

As for pain, there was none. It was as if I was having a hot stone massage – the therapist “rolled” the applicator, which has a cooling tip so you don’t get burnt, over each targeted area for 30 to 45 minutes – and was so comfortable, I fell asleep.

Though four to five sessions are recommended for visible results, the skin around my tummy felt tighter after just one session and my love handles were visibly reduced after two. I wore a bodyhugging dress to a party immediately after my second treatment, and my friends commented that my waist looked smaller.

Exilis Elite Body is available at Prive Clinic, #03-03 Palais Renaissance (6737-6639).
