My Reading Room

I’ve started to notice tiny skin tags on my body, especially on my neck and chest region. What’s the best way to remove these unsightly growths? Jasline Tan

I usually use a radio-wave treatment to remove them. The radio-wave energy dissipates skin tags and also coagulates any blood vessels – this makes the procedure relatively bloodless.

I have small red broken capillaries near my cheek and eye area. What causes these? Can they be removed? Mei Ling

Causes include sun damage, extreme temperatures and repeated laser treatments or fillers in the same area. Broken capillaries are more likely to appear and increase as we age. I’d recommend Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments or vascular lasers to treat these. The latter option does have a bit of downtime – you can expect redness and some swelling for one to five days after the treatment. The upside? Vascular lasers will give you more significant results than IPL treatments.

I’ve had freckles since I was a child and I’ve never tried to lighten them. My mum had them too when she was young, and she said that her freckles “disappeared” over time. Is that possible? Linxy

It is unusual for freckles to disappear without treatment, but they might lighten over time with consistent use of sun protection or with the use of skincare that has brightening ingredients. Sometimes, the skin surrounding the freckles can also become darker due to sun exposure, making the freckles look less visible.
