Facial oils are good for your skin – yes, even if it’s normal or oily. Why? They trick it into thinking that your sebaceous glands are working fine so there is less sebum production.

And the latest oils are ideal for use in the day as they are lightweight, non-greasy, and quickly absorbed (your foundation will glide on effortlessly).

In fact, you can even use them as an alternative to moisturiser. Just dispense two drops onto your palm and pat onto cleansed skin. Here are some of my new faves.

Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Infusion de Rose Nourishing Oil, $89.

Perfect for sensitive skin that’s dry and wrinkled, this rose hip seed-infused oil gets absorbed fast, soothes skin and leaves it with a healthy glow. My skin looked plumper and felt less rough after using it just once.

My Reading Room

Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate, $80.

This one’s the lightest of the lot. My skin felt smoother and makeup glided on better, but the oil didn’t feel greasy at all. Go for this if you want to combat inflammation – it has ginger root oil to reduce redness. My skin looked less blotchy and tired after three days of using this product.

The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil, $65.90.

For natural skincare junkies: 99 per cent of the oils in this blend are natural, including rose hip and camellia, two of the product’s star ingredients. It took a minute to sink into the skin, but left a silky, non-sticky finish once it did. My skin felt softer and smoother with each application. I especially liked its soothing botanical scent.

Shiseido Future Solution LX Replenishing Treatment Oil, $232.

I’ve been using this multifunctional oil everywhere – on my face, body, hands and even nail cuticles after a manicure. I love how it brightens my skin and gives it a soft sheen. It also takes mere seconds to sink in, and leaves a refreshing yuzu scent.

My Reading Room

La Mer The Renewal Oil, $370.

Try this to perk up dull skin. It’s enriched with the brand’s famous Miracle Broth, which has radiance-boosting and anti-ageing benefits. I used the oil after a jog on a sunny day and my skin instantly looked plumper and more radiant, without oily residue. Plus, the post-exercise redness was gone in a jiff y. Another perk: dark spots on my skin seemed to lighten more quickly.
