You probably won’t be able to mix drinks like the cocktail wizards at 28 Hongkong Street can, but the folks behind it are keen on helping you get there. Proof & Company has launched EC Proof, an online store that stocks all the tools, ingredients and collectibles you’d need for a home bar setup – even recipe and history books. Those who still prefer a brick and mortar experience or are keen on events and workshops can head down to 43A Hongkong Street to The Proof Flat, a retail outlet styled to look like an apartment that the fictional company founder Mr EC Proof would have.

MIXING HISTORY
One of five F&B venues in JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach, the Court Martial Bar gets its name from occupying the site of the former Singapore NCO Court Martial office in the 1940s. Aside from the original architecture and some memorabilia under the partly see-through floor, the bar is fairly light on the nostalgia, preferring to channel a bygone era by serving up subtle twists on classic cocktails. The barrel-aged Negroni and South Beach Sour (sweetened with homemade barley syrup) are perfectly respectable interpretations, while bar bites like the crudites with eggplant dip, and wagyu beef satay will keep you sated till dinner.
30 Beach Road. Tel: 6818-1888.

FOWL PLAY
Every year, Suntory Old Whisky dons a festive zodiac label. This year’s cheerful rooster motif might be celebratory but the spirit within need not be. Unlike its more prestigious brethren Yamazaki, Hakushu and Hibiki, the Old Whisky isn’t one to save for special occasions.
Its moderate nose, smooth palate and slight kick make it ideal for casual sipping. Available at Tamashii Robataya, 12 North Canal Road. Tel: 6222-0316.
