Nestled above JW Marriott Singapore South Beach and located at the intersection of Singapore’s arts and heritage districts, South Beach Residences is part of an integrated development jointly developed by City Developments Limited and IOI Properties Group. Comprising 190 residential units located within the upper 22 storeys of the 45-storey building, South Beach Residences commands handsome views of the area while remaining close to worldclass theatres in Esplanade and Marina Bay Sands, as well as 16 dining and lifestyle concepts within the South Beach enclave.

From the get-go, South Beach Residences already scores points for its unique architecture as part of a sustainable urban quarter. London-based architects Foster + Partners, known for its design of Apple stores around the world, has cleverly incorporated Singapore’s reputation as a concrete jungle into the design of the new towers. Developed to capitalise on our tropical climate, the towers’ curvaceous heights house plants and trees that populate sky gardens, roof terraces and balconies, while tiled panels defiect heat from buildings. The structure protects visitors, guests and residents with a distinctive microclimatic canopy that acts as a water harvesting system, converting rainwater for other uses.

THE HIGH LIFE

With only six penthouse units spread across the 42nd and 45th floors of the building, these exclusive abodes are South Beach Residences’ most covetable apartments. These include one fivebedroom penthouse measuring 6,728 sq ft, two four-bedroom penthouses measuring 4,446 to 5,070 sq ft, as well as three three-bedroom penthouses measuring 3,897 to 4,424 sq ft.

Award-winning interior designer Peter Tay of Peter Tay Studio conceptualised the look of a three-bedroom unit and the result is a stunning blend of sleek lines and a diverse palate of rich textures such as dark marble, treated steel, bronze mirror and onyx marble.

A favourite among celebrities such as Zhang Ziyi and Wang Leehom, Tay is a master of luxury design. His signature touch can be seen in his use of refiective spaces, a practice he’s evolved with South Beach Residences.

“Reflection is my design identity,” shares the recipient of the President’s Design Award – Designer of the Year. “Previously, to achieve this idea, I used materials like high gloss polyurethane. Now a different material is used to achieve it – metal.”

Tay’s attention to detail is also evident in his use of proportions and materials. “The furniture’s proportion has to be right for the space, along with the material for the furniture,” he says.

“The dining table in steel, arm chairs in leather, and coffee table top in marble… these elements tie in with the space and bring out its warmth.”

PETER TAY’S MIDAS TOUCH

In entering the penthouse, you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’ve stepped into a luxury fashion boutique. Tay’s imprint has been stamped on stores for Richard Mille, Armani Casa and Manolo Blahnik. His discerning taste and eye for fashion are visible throughout the unit, where he introduces the nuances of Singapore’s tropics with the use of textured rugs and patterned wallpapers.

Quality appliances from brands such as Miele, Sub-Zero, Duravit and Keuco beautify the kitchen and bathroom, while furnishings from the likes of Poltrona Frau, NEMO and Gio Ponti add pizzazz to the rooms.

Furnishings were specially created for the penthouse too, such as the treated panel and high gloss panels on the feature ceiling.

Indeed, the unit comes fully furnished so residents can move right in. They can also be assured that the facilities of South Beach Residences are just as luxurious.

The 22nd floor houses function rooms for entertaining, as well as a gym and infinity pool with views that stretch to the Southern Islands. The 32nd floor has a gourmet pantry and reading lounge.
