My Reading Room

A holiday home for a high-flying Singaporean businesswoman, this understatedly luxurious three-bedroom apartment in Chelsea, London, was refurbished to inject life into a previously uninspiring, dull space. Working with interior designers Andrea Milward (right) and Alison Teverini (left), the lady of the home gave a clear brief: As a fan of fashion designer brand Chanel, she wanted her home to channel a Chanel-inspired look, as well as incorporate hints of 1950s luxe, in a glamourchic style to imbue the home with warmth and character.

The home design was completed within a relatively short time frame last year, to ensure the homeowner could return to celebrate the year-end holidays. Thanks to meticulous space planning, clever selection of elegant furniture and practical storage solutions, the unit houses everything that the homeowner wanted – from style to function.

SPLASH OF PINK

The interior designer and homeowner commissioned an artist from Ibiza to design the painting in the living room, which was inspired by the baby pink shade used in the classic Chanel tweed jacket that the homeowner loves.

TEXTURAL QUALITY

An overall neutral colour palette of beiges and browns makes the splash of pink stand out, while textural details of the furnishings, such as a chevron-patterned rug, an antique mirror-glass coff ee table, and quilted cushions that remind one of Chanel’s iconic bag design, complete the look.

CHANNELLING CHANEL

An antique retro mirror with an illustration of one of Chanel’s fragrance bottles lends this space personality, and is testament to the homeowner’s love for the fashion brand.

STRONG ACCENTS

In creating a moody yet bold look in the second bedroom, charcoal greys and darker hues were used. To draw the eye in, Andrea accented the space with gold detailing, such as on the bedside lamps, and positioned a black feather Juju hat above the bed for a quirky, playful touch.
