Discover art in a novel way at the Children’s Biennale 2017, which runs until Oct 8 at the National Gallery Singapore.

There, you’ll find Homogenizing and Transforming World, which immerses the little ones in a multisensory experience – balls change colour with touch, along with sound and visual accompaniments, and the Obliteration room, where children will have fun covering the furniture and walls with colourful dots. Activities are free.

While you’re there, catch the Singapore International Children’s Film Festival, which showcases eight collections of short films such as Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, and Oscar-winning Sing. Curated for ages two to 18 (but everyone’s welcome to watch), the films will play at various dates and timings from May 27 to June 11.

Tickets are $12.90 each.

If Junior has a fascination with construction toys, you must take him to Diggersite.

The popular role-playing worksite recently moved from East Coast Park to Orto leisure park in Yishun. Its larger premises allow the one-year-old Singapore start-up to offer more vehicles that children and adults can operate.

When Young Parents visited, there were seven stations, including a new tower crane that lets you lift and transfer magnetic bricks. And this is probably the only place in Singapore where you can operate a forklift without a licence.

The activities are an awesome way to hone hand-eye coordination – even the adults’ – and to bond with the kids. Over the next few months, the team aims to introduce more machines and fun, such as concrete-mixing, brick-laying and wall-painting.

There is no minimum age requirement. While kids aged five and above can operate most vehicles independently, those who are younger can partner with an adult.

Don’t forget to pack sunblock, insect repellent and water bottles for the family.

Weekday rates start from $25 for 10 activities for each child or adult, and $20 for every subsequent person.
