With gleaming dark honey teak interiors, wide walk-around decks and a profile that is at once elegant and purposeful, the first of an exciting new generation 58-foot pilot house cruisers from Explorer Motor Yachts has been delivered to an Owner in Norway.

Explorer attracted four buyers off-the-plan when it was announced. The second 58 was recently undergoing commissioning in the Mediterranean before delivery to a marina in Slovenia. The third boat will go to an Owner in Hong Kong and the fourth to the Middle East.

“This model is the culmination of more than 20 years of experience in developing and building blue-water cruisers,” says Explorer Motor Yachts CEO Mark Campion. Headquartered in Hong Kong, the Explorer range is produced at the Fuhua Shipbuilding Yard in China to the highest standards with meticulous attention to detail and rigorous quality control measures.

“Our naval architect, Mark Williamson, is passionate about stability and safety. The hull is shaped for ultimate stability with a solid fibreglass laminate below the waterline. The craftspeople in our yard are highly experienced in building semi-custom motor yachts and the level of attention to detail is second to none in our industry.”

First announced in late-2014, the Explorer 58 Pilot House is a semidisplacement cruiser offering three cabins and two bathrooms with the master suite stretching across the full beam amidships.

The master stateroom includes an east-west-facing king bed, wide bedside tables, built-in wardrobes and a sliding Japanese-style door to the en-suite bathroom. Two large portholes flood the room with both light and air while night lighting is provided by dimmable LED lights set into the headliner.

The main deck includes a saloon with warm teak timbers and a plush U-shaped lounge. Three steps up is the fully-equipped galley with four-burner convection hob and twin stainless steel sinks, the dinette and pilot house.

“This new model included a range of standard features that most builders offer only as options,” explains Campion. “These include both bow and stern thrusters for ultimate manoeuvring control.

“Teak decking is standard throughout – from the boarding platform, over the cockpit and on the side decks to midships. Both the pilot house and flybridge helms include hand-made teak wheels.

“We have included LED lighting throughout, with dimmers on most of the internal lighting. There is also subtle rope lighting through the saloon and courtesy LED lights on all external steps. In fact, the only options that a new Owner needs to consider are whether to install a water-maker, stabilisers and which navigation electronics are required.”

Powered by a pair of Cummins turbo diesel engines, the Explorer 58 Pilot House is capable of up to 23 knots and is equally comfortable cruising at an elegant eight knots for maximum range and economy. With a fuel capacity of more than 5,000 litres, she has a range of up to 1,500 nautical miles at the slower speeds.
