HOLLAND SHIPYARD ROYAL HUISMAN was commissioned by an Asian client, introduced by Northrop & Johnson Asia’s Bart Kimman, to build a contemporary three-masted schooner. This 81m contemporary schooner was officially revealed at the Monaco Yacht Show Sept 28-Oct 1 by the design and build team. The client’s dream has an impressive overall length of 81m (266ft) and a plumb bow, making her not only powerful and recognisable all over the world, but also the largest yacht to be built at the shipyard in Vollenhove and ranked in the top 10 of the world’s largest sailing yachts. Together with Dykstra Naval Architects, British designer Mark Whiteley and Kimman of Northrop & Johnson Asia, Royal Huisman will make this dreamyacht become reality, keeping its promise of “If you can dream it, we can build it”. “At Dykstra Naval Architects, we are extremely excited and proud to be part of the creative team for the new 81m three-masted performance schooner,” says Thys Nikkels of Dykstra Naval Architects. “Using our experience and inventive minds to create an innovative contemporary schooner yacht for fast passage making is one to tick off our bucket list.” “Building a project with Royal Huisman is a very special experience for a designer, jointly designing an 81m new build is an opportunity of a career lifetime,” says Mark Whiteley of Mark Whiteley Design.
