Some mums and dads went “back to school” on May 7. Their mission: to pick upexpert tips on how to help their kids learnEnglish and their mother tongue languageat The Little Skool-House Early Literacy Preschool Seminar: Young Parents Master Class. Here are some of the highlights.

1 After a welcome address by Eunice Tong, cluster manager of The Little Skool-House International (LSH), three LSH specialists – Ong Seok Yan and Melissa Goh, both senior education development specialists, and Kou Ye, education development specialist – explained how preschoolers learn.

2 During the hands-on session, they used materials provided to create a slider game, storyboard and story stage, which they could take home to use with their kids.

3 While the parents were busy, their kids had a great time with staff from LSH, who engaged them in storytelling, games and craft activities.

4 After the break, actor, illustrator and author Edmund Chen shared stories from his family life and howhe bonded with histwo kids through drawing and sharing stories.

5 Parents also browsed through the literacy exhibition next door, which showcased the many projects by LSH children. Staff were on hand to talk them through the learning process the kids went through.
