The spacious sitting area is decked out in pieces hand-picked from the designer’s furniture collection, such as the limited-edition coffee table in Calacatta Macchia Vecchia marble, lacquer and polished stainless steel.

Juxtaposing light and dark, Cristina paired a light linen-upholstered sofa with a broody Dois Barcos artwork by Luis Paulo Costa in the living room. The imagery of two boats accentuates the home’s nature-inspired interior.

The breezy 600sqf terrace is the perfect place to soak in the stunning view. One can easily linger over breakfast at the Eero Saarinen table and Harry Bertoia dining chairs.

The rotating brass and stainless steel panels at the entrance area is one of the visual highlights of the home. Their hues are replicated in the matching chest of drawers nearby.

The crisp Florence Knoll dining table is surrounded by a medley of Hans Wegner wood and straw chairs and Warren Platner armchairs for a casual, comfortable feel. A Louis Poulsen Louvre lamp above adds a touch of retro chic.

The sofa is dressed up on either side with simple Carl Hansen wood tables, which are decorated with vintage ceramic vases and iconic lamps. The living room is linked at one end to the kitchen, which gives the apartment an integrated feel.

Soothing colours dominate the master bedroom, which is lined with textured wallpaper and boasts floor-to-ceiling windows. Cristina designed different bedside tables, one in wood and the other in Travertino marble, with the personalities of the owners in mind.

The bathroom has a monochromatic palette and “floating” mirrors to maximise the sense of spaciousness.

A fluid mix of warm and elegant tones imbues the home with intimate sophistication.

Poised at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, the sandy stretch known as the Portuguese Riviera is where the rich and royal reside. Estoril, along this coveted beachfront area, has its own fair share of svelte homes, including this elegant summer residence belonging to a Brazilian couple in their 60s. The 1,800sqf holiday retreat, where they spend a few months annually, was done up by Cristina Jorge de Carvalho of her eponymous design studio, to convey the understated luxury fitting of the fantastic ocean views surrounding the house.

Space, light and modernity exude from every aspect of this home to emphasise the apartment’s bright and breezy feel. To play up the interior space, Cristina replaced an original wall between the entrance and living areas with sleek and contemporary slim rotating panels that can be adjusted to vary the amount of light entering the space.

The dining and living areas are subtly melded by classic neutral tones, which are energised by accents of black and gold for a modern, edgy touch. While distinctly clean and contemporary, Cristina ensured the home kept true to its local roots by imbuing the walls with Portuguese art, many of which are reminiscent of the home’s dreamy, waterside setting. An eclectic selection of furnishings completes the look, with carefully chosen items from the designer’s furniture collection interspersed with polished designer pieces.
