FRITZ HANSEN LOUNGE

Fritz Hansen leaves its Bukit Timah location for a new nest in Tan Boon Liat Building.

Portrait of Tammy Strobel

The newly opened Fritz Hansen Lounge is both sophisticated and playful – a reflection of Fritz Hansen and its long-time collaborator and designer of this showroom, Jaime Hayon, who is known for his feel-good and colourful designs.

Comprising several cosy nooks that have been designed and styled like actual living, dining and study rooms, the 400 sq m Tan Boon Liat unit features accent walls clad in subdued shades of teal, moss and terracotta.

Metal grilles bearing intricate and whimsical patterns demarcate each space beautifully, while paintings and soft furnishings imbue the space with a homely ambience. There is even a working kitchen, which anchors the spacious unit.

“My idea for the Fritz Hansen store in Singapore was to bring a touch of cool Scandinavian air to tropical Singapore, providing a respite for customers coming in from outside,” says Jaime.

Here, inspiration is aplenty, and you can expect the full range of Fritz Hansen furniture, too.

At the entrance is Jaime’s new JH97 lounge chair, fresh off Milan Design Week 2019. You will get to see how his Ikebana vase can spruce up a dining table, or how his roomy and cosy Ro armchair is the one to have in a home office. The Drop chair and 3107 chairs by Arne Jacobsen prove to be the perfect companions for a dining table, while the Caravaggio Black P4 lamps by Cecilie Manz is simple yet eye-catching.

Thanks to the addition of cool and coveted brands like Fritz Hansen and Vitra – both brands are distributed by W. Atelier – Tan Boon Liat Building is quickly going from secret furniture shopping directory for insiders to inspirational design hub.
