SEVERAL STORAGE SPACES WERE ADDED TO KEEP THE HOME CLUTTER- FREE.
The homeowners – a couple in their late 30s – of this three-bedroom penthouse unit first approached designer Nicky Haw with an idea of creating a Balinese-style home. Nicky ran with that concept and weaved in modern elements with a Scandinavian-industrial touch. The living room has a cosy ambience, thanks to the shades of grey, brown and black used. Woodgrain and black laminates from Lamitak are used on the TV console, which serves multiple purposes – it partitions the living and dining spaces, and the rotatable screen also serves both living and dining rooms.
The dining room features built-in seating area to accommodate more space for guests. Exposed wires and bulbs hanging from the ceiling give the space an edgy industrial look. Tinted mirrors accentuate the wall above the bench seating, while creating the illusion of a larger space. Behind the grey sofa in the living room is a customised bar counter which the couple requested as they enjoy entertaining guests at home. To save space, the wine chiller is hidden under the stairs, within built-in cabinetry clad with grey fabric-look laminate. Groove lines were etched on the laminate surface to create a grid pattern. Taking advantage of the apartment’s high ceiling, Nicky created a mezzanine level that now serves as a cosy entertainment-cumstudy space.
