Retreating to fast-paced Singapore to get away from it all sounds like a paradox, but it makes sense when you’re coming home to this chic urban oasis, a spacious apartment in the leafy environs of Bukit Timah. A lush, green view of treetops greets you at the balcony of the 12th-floor home, while the soothing interiors carry inspiration from nature – from a canary yellow screen printed with scenes of exotic birds to a rice-paper chandelier, pale wood floors and just the right balance of fresh and earthy tones. The focus is on rest and relaxation as its owners – a mature couple who hopscotch to their homes all around the world – were looking for a simple, welcoming and stylish weekend retreat.
But what really sets the apartment apart is its pairing of nature with something more man-made – geometry, by designer Gracinha Viterbo from Viterbo Interior Design. She says: “The hues are light and neutral, the lines simple and fresh. The homeowners are welltravelled, and wanted something different and personalised.” She retained the existing layout, which includes large, open-concept living, dining and kitchen areas; and added a sliding door to the bedroom corridor for privacy.
