With industrial-rustic style interiors being the current decor trend, one can’t help but be drawn to Beauty Kitchen, with its interiors dressed with lots of wood, “plants” and metal. The skincare and body-care products in this new shop – from exclusive brands mostly sourced from Japan – and the shop’s interior design go hand-in-hand, as both are inspired by natural and botanical elements. Dily Wang, founder of Beauty Kitchen and a well-known makeup artist, worked with her friend of over 20 years – Wayne Loh, associate director of WAL Associate – to conceptualise the look of the store. “Retail design is very important as customers are able to identify what the shop represents even before entering. I’ve observed that people don’t feel intimidated by the decor, and just walk in,” shares Wayne. To achieve a warm and welcoming ambience, he refrained from adopting a specific style, and instead mixed pieces to create a more casual look. For example, he combined Art Deco and industrial-style lighting fixtures with rustic-look vinyl flooring. The centrepiece of the shop is a counter made of solid tamarind wood, which Wayne imported from Thailand. He paired it with a plank of solid rain tree wood to create a prominent display area for products. In contrast, the cashier counter is decked in Volakas marble mosaic tiles, which keep the space looking elegant and refined.
