The steel wire frame is coated with taut, webbed plastic. Thanks to its spherical shape, the lamp emits a warm atmospheric light – well-distributed, and without any glare.

Each lamp comes with a steel ceiling plate and a 1.8m cord (or 2.7m, for the extra-large version), but the versatile lamp can also be wall-mounted.

Bubble lamps come in various shapes, including (from left) the Saucer, Cigar, Ball, and Pear. The webbing is available in both the classic style as well as the criss-cross version.

BIO

Inspired by a Swedish silk lantern he could not afford, architect-turned-designer George Nelson set out to recreate a more economical and sturdier lamp. The result is the handcrafted Bubble pendant lamp, recognisable for its all-white, paper-like sculptural form. Designed in 1947, the Bubble lamp is regarded as a Modernist classic.

TRIVIA
