Take a look at the interiors of The Middle House – the fourth outlet from boutique hotel chain House Collective by Swire Hotels – and you might find the design language familiar, with clean, bold lines that make up the sleek silhouettes in the hotel rooms and serviced apartments. This is the work of Piero Lissoni, renowned architect and founder of Italian architecture firm Lissoni Architettura, who is also the brains behind many designs by respectable furniture brands including Boffi, Cassina, Fritz Hansen and Kartell.

While the previous House hotels are situated in Hong Kong, Beijing and Chengdu, The Middle House is located in Shanghai’s trendy Nanjing Road (West) district. Modern European features are married with Shanghainese design characteristics for an overall interesting pairing of the old and new, and an Eastmeets- West vibe in The Middle House. The interiors are furnished with some of the most unique accessories and customised furniture, such as oriental-inspired nightstands and headboards that feature calligraphy bamboo artworks iconic to the Chinese culture. These are coupled with contemporary-style pieces, including poster beds and leather armchairs in neutral tones.

To heighten the sense of space in the serviced apartments, while ensuring there is enough privacy in the bedrooms, Lissoni replaced walls with sliding wood panels. This strategy also offers the possibility of a flexible living area.

Rich brown ceramic parquet tiles with brushed bamboo textures clad the floor in the bathroom for a tactile experience. Take in the relaxing atmosphere at The Middle House while on your next vacation in Shanghai, in this home away from home!

Neither safety nor design is compromised, as the intricately cut flooring tiles offer better grip, while keeping with the colour scheme and interior style.
