Ferrari 488 Pista

My Reading Room

Yes, the name is silly, but let’s be clear, Pista is “track” in Italian and that should tell you a lot about the car. In a nutshell, the 488 Pista is a lighter and faster version of the already quick 488 GTB. To elaborate, the 488 Pista still has a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8, but power has been bumped up from 661hp to 711hp. It is also 90kg lighter, tipping the scales at 1,280kg before fluids. That’s really light for a modern-day supercar.

0 to 100km/h happens in just 2.85 seconds and 200km/h will appear on the speedometer just in just 7.6 seconds. Top speed is over 340km/h. Sheer speed is just one part of the equation. To make it go fast around a track, the 488 Pista has aerodynamics inspired by the 488 GTE racecar. The front and rear diffusers, for example, increase downforce by up to 20%, negating the need for a conspicuous rear wing and allowing the 488 Pista to keep its svelte silhouette Expect to see these screaming down Orchard Road in the near future.
