Founded in Japan by Izumi Tabata, it is a high-intensity interval training workout that’s typically conducted in a circuit format. Each exercise lasts four minutes, and you’ll go through eight intervals of 20 seconds at a very high intensity, followed by 10 seconds of rest to catch your breath. If you’re game, you can also combine two exercises for an eight-minute round at intervals of 40 seconds high intensity and 20 seconds rest.
Tabata training is designed to improve both the body’s aerobic and anaerobic systems, and to increase your strength and endurance levels. The awardwinning HIIT class promises to torch fat and give you a killer workout in under an hour. Each Tabata class is only 45 to 50 minutes long, and is a great option for lunchtime exercises as Pure Fitness gyms are conveniently located in the heart of the CBD.
