Micro bangs

Edgy and fuss-free, these baby bangs will frame your features and draw attention to your peepers. Plus, they’re great for those who love bangs, but hate it when hair gets into their eyes. Depending on the look you’re after, they can either be blunt-cut or choppy.

To ease into this style, our beauty writer Charmaine Lee suggests you go for bangs that sit roughly 1.5cm above the eyebrows. If you like the way you look, you can experiment with going shorter.

Charmaine’s tips:

1. Spritz on a seasalt spray before blow-drying to create more texture without weighing down your fringe.

2. If your hair isn’t naturally straight, you’ll need to blow-dry your fringe right after washing your tresses – micro bangs look best when worn straight, not wavy.

3. You don’t need a special brush to style micro bangs; simply hold a hairdryer over your fringe and use your fingers to brush the hair from side to side until it’s dry.

The shag

A style that looks good on practically everyone, eff ortlessly chic shaggy bangs can be swept to the side or worn straight down – the latter is good for hiding ungroomed eyebrows. Our beauty writer Carina Koh shares her tips on how to keep shaggy bangs looking great.

Carina’s tips:

1. Every morning, use a root-lifting spray to give your bangs volume. This will also keep them from falling flat by the end of the day.

2. Get your bangs trimmed every three to four weeks to keep them at an eyebrow-grazing length. I cut them every month with help from Etude House Hot Style Bangs Cut Kit, which comprises a pair of scissors and a hair clip to keep your fringe in place as you trim it.

3. On particularly hot days, spritz dry shampoo on your bangs at lunchtime to keep them from becoming greasy.
