SIMPLICITY AND OPENNESS ARE THE KEY ELEMENTS OF THIS HOME.
Two things struck Shawn when he first saw this house – the lack of daylight within, and the verdant garden with two mature trees. It became clear that the latter could be used as a solution for the former. As the original kitchen sat in a windowless space to the left of its current location, Shawn promptly switched its location with the music room, which was at the front of the home. Now positioned next to the dining area, the kitchen enjoys plenty of light through the glass walls that separate it from the garden outside. The black-and-white theme he implemented throughout the home created modern and airy rooms for the homeowners – a young couple and their child. This colour scheme can be seen in the black-and-white blinds throughout the house, and is complemented by white and grey marble on both levels. While clean and streamlined profiles dominate the home, the only decorative and non-linear element Shawn introduced is a screen at the base of the staircase that has cut-outs of tessellating hexagons. The homeowner threw in one more challenge – his collection of 11 scrambler motorbikes that needed shelter and a washing bay. Shawn responded with a simple parking bay featuring paving stones so that the bikes can be hosed down in the garden.
