Facial oils are a simple and efficient way to hydrate dry skin quickly. Why? They are lipophilic (this means they dissolve in lipids or fats), so they can easily penetrate the surface layers of the skin, which have lipids, and get absorbed quickly.
Earning our stamp of approval is SK-II Facial Treatment Oil ($205), the brand’s first facial oil. In addition to its famous Pitera, which is chockfull of vitamins and minerals to brighten skin, refine its texture and protect it from external aggressors such as pollution, the oil is formulated with a blend of six oils – olive, jojoba, avocado, rice bran, rice sterol (derived from rice bran oil) and squalene – to intensely hydrate skin.
Add to that a subtle, calming lavender scent and a non-sticky, satinlike finish that works perfectly under foundation, and we’re sold.

For a bold lip
Oil-in-stick Lipstick in #45 Rouge Tuxedo, $50.Yves Saint Laurent Beaute Rouge Volupte Shine.
Love the classic red lip? This intense, shiny hue is right up your alley. Infused with pomegranate extract and macadamia butter, this lippie also keeps your puckers plump, hydrated and looking great.
For a shimmery finish
Rmk lip jelly gloss in ex-03 vivid pink, $36.
Want supple lips and a sparkling finish? This shimmery fuchsia lip gloss with a moisturising gel formula is your go-to. It looks scary bright in the tube, but goes on sheer – making it great for wearing on its own, or for layering over a bright lipstick. What I like most about it is its spatula applicator, which has a pointed tip that makes it so easy to create the perfect Cupid’s bow.
For a soft hint of colour
Sulwhasoo Essential Lip Serum Stick in #02 Blossom Serum, $50.
This is my new must-have if I’m travelling to a wintry country. The camellia oil in it keeps my lips hydrated, while the glossy, cherry-hued finish makes them look soft and plump. Granted, the gloss wears off after roughly two hours, but even then, my lips aren’t as flaky and chapped as before.
