The homeowner’s brief for her three-bedroom condominium apartment at The Vermont On Cairnhill was “something simple yet luxurious”, and that was exactly what Maena Ong of Mong Design Studio delivered. As the homeowner had sought advice from a geomancer, a purple element was required in the dining area. Instead of painting the walls, or using wallpaper, Maena commissioned artist Larry B to create a unique artwork. Titled Lavender Field, it incorporates shades of purple, which complements the contemporary design of the rest of the apartment. A dining table with a wooden top adds warmth and texture to the area.
To create an illusion of a larger space, Maena customised six mirrored frames, which visually break up the solidity of the wall clad in dark wenge veneer from Toseva Timber (as with the opposite wall). They are displayed above the taupe Furniture Club sofa in the living room, composing a picture of elegant symmetry alongside table lamps and cushions. In the master bedroom, the fabric-upholstered and padded headboard extends to the ceiling to pull the eye upwards. The same wood veneer used in the living room is also used here – as well as in the walk-in wardrobe – to maintain a consistent design language throughout the home. What is truly luxurious is the boutique-style walk-in wardrobe, which has customised spaces to store and display clothes, bags and shoes. A glittering chandelier ups the glamour quotient, while inset brass-coloured metal strips stand out against the dark cabinetry.
